Basics of Learning How to Play Golf
Learning how to play golf can be interesting or fun depending on a series of factors. It can be a really daunting task for some, while others seem to really enjoy their experience on the golf course. So before getting started with learning how to play golf, you are well advised to be versed with the common golf terminology. To start with, golf course is the playing field of golf, that is, where the game is played. A golf course typically has 9 or 18 holes. First 9 holes of a golf course are called front nine and the second 9 are referred to as back nine. When you have played all 18 holes, it means a round of golf has been played. For beginners, golf is an outdoor sport where players use clubs to hit balls in holes on a golf course and try doing so in minimum strokes; so the fewer strokes you take to put the ball in the hole, the better you score. There are different ways of competing in a golf game. In stroke play form, the game is played for fewest strokes by players. In match play form, the game is competed for the best score taking most individual holes.
To be really able to know how to play golf, as a beginner, you need to work on some important golf tips first. If you are beginning to learn how to play golf you can do without a full and expensive set of clubs. It's important to pay attention to your grip as it's only your grip that connects you and your club. You need to be well-balanced in your stance and your bodyweight should be slightly on your toes. Keep in mind that a very important factor of your game is putting and a great deal of your game is going to depend on that. Finally, never forget the thumb rule of golf to always play the ball from where it lies.
So while you learn how to play golf, also keep in mind that you would need the required equipment for the game. The equipments consist of shoes, playing clubs, tees, balls and the bag that these are put into. To be able to learn how to play better golf it is important that you pay attention even to the trivial details such as the equipment bag. While it's correct that you don't need a lot of clubs at the initial level, it's good to understand the different types that are there. There are five different types of clubs used in the game of golf and these are: hybrid club, iron club, wood club, wedge club, and putters. As per the stated rules of the game, during a single round, each player is allowed a maximum of 14 clubs.
After the club comes the next important factor of the grip. Don't ever make the mistake of undervaluing the importance of a grip or you'll never be able to learn how to play better golf. Eventually, the range and accuracy of your shot will largely depend on how good your grip is. You can identify a good grip if it feels comfortable, allows you full control of the club, lends power to your shot, and finally, a good grip is almost neutral when you hold the club. For those who are still learning how to play golf, a baseball grip is suggested in the beginning. As the name hints, the key is to hold the club as if you are holding a baseball bat. A baseball grip is the strongest and most comfortable grip.
Next most important step is to learn the stance properly. For a proper stance, you should stretch your feet to a shoulder-width distance. Your hips need to be pushed back so that your weight can fall on your heels. Another quick way to judge if your stance is correct is by dropping your hands when you get into position. If your hands are not hanging properly or one is more twisted than the other, your stance isn't balanced. To get back to balance you need to further adjust your feet. In a balanced stance your arms form a V and are properly stretched out.
Putting is mostly going to be your final shot in a game so you should be more alert while attempting the shot. Never take your eyes off and use specific putting club grip for the shot. The best grip for putting is when your thumbs are on top of your grip. Make a pendulum like swing using both, your arms and shoulders but not your head and/or wrists.
For those who already play golf and are just looking at how to play better golf might want to try with disc golf alternatively. It sounds pretty strange but the thing is that once you already know the basics of golf, it becomes a little difficult to redo them in your mind. So with the structural commonality of both games, learning how to play disc golf can actually work like a revised golf module.
