Kings XI Punjab

The Kings XI Punjab has had a lukewarm affair with the IPL, known more for the glamorous owners than for their actual game. This is no reflection of their game, but states more about the impact of the owners with the fans.

The first few seasons of the IPL saw Yuvraj singh shine in the Kings XI squad, with Irfan Pathan too excelling in his area. International stars like Mahela Jayawardena, Kumar Sangakkara and Bret Lee also helped win matches for the Kings XI Punjab.

None of the prominent players who played for the Kings XI Punjab during the first three seasons of the Indian Premier League were retained before the auctions. This was probably because the owners wanted a complete change and thereby a change in fortunes!

The Kings XI Punjab team includes AC Gilchrist, Dinesh Karthik, Nitin Saini, L Ablish, PP Chawla, SJ Srivatsava, VS Malik, Praveen Kumar, Bharghav Bhat, Amit Yadav, Nathan Rimmington, SE Marsh, Mandeep Singh, P Dogra, Siddharth Chitnis, David Miller, Bipul Sharma, R Mc Laren, AM Nayar, Ryan Harris, DJ Hussey, Paul Valhaty, Sunny Singh and Stuart Broad.

AC Gilchrist is the captain of the Kings XI Punjab for the current season of the IPL. He was earlier the captain of the Deccan Chargers and was responsible for steering the team to victory during the 2009 season. Adam Gilchrist is known to play fair and walk away from the crease in the event of getting out even if the umpire has failed to signal so. He is known for his encouraging presence on the field and his unending motivation to the team players. Though he has officially retired from the Australian Cricket team, he enjoys a special reverence in the Indian Premier League. Adam Gilchrist is a good wicketkeeper with a safe pair of hands that can be depended upon to take any catch that may come his way. AC Gilchrist is a left handed batsman who has a strike rate of 141 in the twenty 20 format.

Dinesh Karthik is a very good batsman while also aiding as an effective wicketkeeper. He is the favoured wicket keeper, after Mahendra Singh Dhoni, for the Indian cricket team and his experience and forte have been utilised by the Kings XI Punjab.

David Hussey is a well known Australian bowler, who excels in right arm off breaks. David was with the Kolkata knight Riders before he joined Kings XI Punjab in this season of IPL. David Hussey had a successful innings with the Kolkata Knight Riders and received the man of the match award against a match against the Deccan Chargers. This year he is focussed on aiding the Kings XI team to victory. He is well known for his hard hitting and for increasing the run rate.

Shaun Marsh is a top order batsman who plays for Australia. His father played for Australia, providing him with the necessary training early on in his career to mould Shaun into a fine batsman. Shaun has a batting average in the twenty20 of 43.41, which makes him a dependable batsman.

Paul Valthaty is a right hand Indian batsman who played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2009 and 2010. Paul Valthaty trained in the Dilip Vengsarkar academy and is stated to be a very good cricketer. He also bowls medium pace occasionally but is more successful with the bat. He is expected to do well this season of the IPL.

Stuart Broad is an English cricketer who captains the English twenty20 team. His presence in the team is expected to raise confidence as well as to the number of wickets taken.

Nathan Rimmington is a right arm fast bowler from Australia. He has enjoyed success with the ball with his best being 5/27. This Australian bowler is an attacking bowler and has a hat trick to his credit.

Praveen Kumar is a very successful bowler who bowled for the Royal Challengers Bangalore during the first 3 seasons of the IPL. In the third edition of the IPL he was able to get a hat trick for Bangalore in the match against Rajasthan Royals. This talented bowler now bowls for Kings XI Punjab.

The Kings XI Punjab enjoys a new found energy and is expected to perform much better than in the earlier sessions of the IPL. The Owner of the Kings XI Punjab team, Ms. Preity Zinta publicly supports her team and is found to participate actively in cheering her team.
