Kochi Tuskers is a new team that has joined the IPL bandwagon this season. The IPL team that represents the city of Kochi in Kerala has been raking up a large storm since the time of its inception. The owners of the Kochi team, however, were able to successfully convince the BCCI about their ownership and soon the Kochi team was created. Rendezvous sports, which are part owners of the Kochi team bid 1,533.32 crores to obtain the rights to set up an IPL team in Kochi.

The first name that was approved by the owners was Indi Commondos Kerala. However, the name drew a lot of flak from the supporters of the Kerala team and so the name was changed to Kochi Tuskers Kerala based on an opinion poll.
